At Old Bexley, we value the part music plays in the children's education. Through music, the children learn to work with others and understand the value of practice and perseverance. The children can take part in regular concerts and performances.
Here is a list of the opportunities we offer:
KS2 choir meets on Wednesdays at 3.30pm-4.30pm in the KS2 Hall. Anyone is welcome to join.
The KS1 choir is very popular with the Year 2 children and is held on a Tuesday after school from 3.30pm-4.15pm. The children in the choir love performing for KS1, and sometimes KS2, and they also join the KS2 choir for concerts.
The Orchestra is run by Phil Brown who comes in to school on a Friday afternoon to lead our very successful orchestra. Any children who are learning an orchestral instrument can join as soon as they feel confident to play with others.
Djembe drumming lessons are offered once a week on a Tuesday lunchtime in KS2.
There are three days of guitar lessons each week held by Ben Sturge (firstname.lastname@example.org or 07590 413 055). These are available to any child in KS2 and take place either at lunchtime or after school.
Currently we offer lessons on violin, viola, flute, clarinet, double bass and some brass instruments. The lessons are taught in small groups by teachers from Bird College.
There is a charge for the musical instrument lessons, but no money is payable for the choirs or orchestra.
