Pupil Premium is additional funding for schools which is designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better and thereby close the gap between them and their peers. Schools will receive the funding for each pupil registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years. It is up to the school how they decide to spend the funding.
Funding for the 2018/19 academic year is £1320 per pupil. It is spent in a variety of ways:
- whole school training (including online resources)
- links with the virtual school
- head of year support, including conferencing
- 1:1 tutoring
- Teaching Assistant costs
- speech and language support
- intervention programmes
- funding for trips and visits
- music or sports clubs
- Touch, Type, Read, Spell
- Therapeutic play
In February 2018, the Government updated their written guidance regarding looked-after children in schools. All schools should now have a designated member of staff who will take responsibility for promoting the achievement of looked-after and post looked-after children. For Old Bexley Primary, the designated teacher is Mrs Hill, who can be contacted via email@example.com.
The school receives £2300 per school year for looked-after children. This money is used to support the children, train staff, and any required therapy sessions or 1-2-1 time. When a looked-after child starts school, they will be assigned a key worker who will remain their contact throughout their time at Old Bexley. Parents will also be offered half termly meetings.
